FONT AND FONTINI SOLD TO CAPPELEN DAMM

The two independent publishers Fontini and Font have today been sold to Cappelen Damm. Lindy Margrethe Andersen and Knut Ola Ulvestad will continue to run Fontini and Font within the Cappelen Damm group together with all the employees.

In a statement, Ulvestad and Halfdan W. Freihow, who established Font in 2005, comment, "For twelve years we've had the pleasure of running our own publishing house, of introducing new authors to Norwegian readers and cooperating with talented colleagues in the book industry. But when this opportunity presented itself, we decided to choose an alliance with a large market operator." Font publishes fiction authors like Gillian Flynn, Chigozie Obioma, Elif Shafak, John Hart, Parinoush Saniee, Øistein Borge and Yan Lianke, and has successfully published non-fiction titles such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic' I am Zlatan, Eric Larson's The Devil in the White City and David Van Reybrouck's Congo

The children's and YA publisher Fontini was established by Lindy Margrethe Andersen and Font in 2013, and has quickly become one of Norway's most profitable and prominent publishing houses. Their books include the Treehouse and Amulet series, as well as several spectacular non-fiction titles. "We can now intensify work with what we do and like best, develop new ideas, find new authors and make sure our books are bought and read," says Andersen.

Cappelen Damm's CEO Tom Harald Jenssen says he is proud and glad to be able to include two such well-run and exciting quality publishers in the Cappelen Damm family. "With competent publishing and years of experience, Lindy Margrethe Andersen, Knut Ola Ulvestad, Halfdan W. Freihow and their co-workers have created important houses in the Norwegian publishing industry. Together with them, we look forward to developing existing and new authorships," says Tom Harald Jenssen. The Cappelen Damm group, which is owned by Swedish Bonnier and Danish Egmont, includes Norway's largest publisher, Cappelen Damm, the bookseller chain Tanum and the distribution company Sentraldistribusjon AS.
